Mar. 13, 1965 - Hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 today was “Eight Days a Week,” a single recorded by the Beatles last October and released in this country Feb. 13. The song was written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon based on McCartney’s original idea.
“Eight Days a Week” was released in December on the album “Beatles for Sale,” except in the U.S. and Canada. The track opens with a fade-in, marking one of the first times that this technique has been used on a pop studio recording.
