Oct. 1, 1961 - With Y.A. Tittle as their prime mover, the New York Giants spoiled the home debut of the Redskins today. The score of the ragged contest was 24-21. The Giants, down by two touchdowns at the end of the first quarter, put across the winning tally in the fifth minute of the final period. Tittle registered it on a quarterback sneak from point-blank range. Earlier, the bald, 34-year-old signal-caller had passed the Giants to a touchdown and into position for a field goal. The crowd of 36,767 was the largest ever to witness a sports event in the nation's capital.
