June 30, 1963 - Cicely Tyson (pictured left with George C. Scott and Elizabeth Wilson) has been given a featured role in “East Side, West Side,” a CBS-TV series with George C. Scott starting next season. David Susskind, producer of the series, said that in taking Miss Tyson as one of the three permanent members of the cast along with Mr. Scott and Elizabeth Wilson, he was carrying out a finding by his staff. The show is about social workers, and Mr. Susskind said that in New York a substantial and dedicated part of their total personnel are Negroes. Besides, he said, Miss Tyson is a first-class performer. “We are achieving total integration with total reality,” delcared Mr. Susskind.
