NBA’s Chicago Zephyrs Transferred to Baltimore

Mar. 25, 1963 - The Chicago Zephyrs, organized as a new franchise in the NBA two years ago, were transferred to Baltimore today. The Baltimore Civic Center Commission and Dave Trager, president of the Zephyrs, agreed on a five-year lease to play in the new $14.5 million Civic Center. Trager and his associates had received permission from the NBA governors for the move. The Zephyrs announced 10 days ago they were leaving Chicago, but did not say where they would transfer. Philadelphia and Kansas City also had been considered as new sites. The team will likely be renamed.
