Apr. 12, 1965 - On sale today is “Dance Party,” an album released by Martha and the Vandellas on the Motown label.
The album is the group’s third and, much like The Miracles’ “Mickey’s Monkey” album, mainly consists of dance tunes.
The singles featured on the album are their landmark single, “Dancing in the Street,” their follow-up smash, “Wild One,” and the hit “Nowhere to Run” and its B-side, “Motoring.”
Martha and the Vandellas formed in Detroit in 1957. Formed by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford, and Gloria Williams, Martha Reeves eventually joined the group, and she became its lead vocalist after Williams’ departure in 1962.
