June 6, 1964 - Muhammad Ali got a hard time from a camel today but, as usual, the heavyweight boxing champion got in the last word.
Wearing the sweeping robes presented to him in Ghana, Ali journeyed outside Cairo to view the pyramids. Like countless other tourists, he boarded a camel.
The camel reared up and began to prance around and make noises as only a camel can. The camel’s owner sped to the rescue, only to be waved away by Ali, holding on bravely and gradually taming the ship of the desert.
“I’m the champ,” said Muhammad, “and I can tame a camel just like I handled Sonny Liston.”
