Aug. 15, 1963 - “The V.I.P.s” opens at the Hollywood Paramount Theater on Sept. 11. Based on an original screenplay by Terence Rattigan, the story deals with an assorted group of people at London Airport whose departure is delayed by a heavy fog and the effect this delay has on their lives. With Elizabeth Taylor cast as the wife of millionaire Richard Burton, the picture also stars Louis Jourdan (right) as a playboy, Elsa Martinelli as an actress, Margaret Rutherford as a Duchess, Rod Taylor as a businessman, Linda Christian as a girl looking for romance, and Orson Welles as a film producer. Each of the story’s principals has an urgent reason for the immediate plane flight from London, and each finds his or her life irrevocably altered as a result of the fog which holds up the flights. “The V.I.P.s” marks the first time Australian actor Rod Taylor has played an Australian character on film.
