Aug. 12, 1964 - Opening today is “The Patsy,” a comedy film directed by and starring Jerry Lewis. The supporting cast includes Everett Sloane, Phil Harris, Keenan Wynn, Peter Lorre, John Carradine, and Ina Balin.
The film contains cameos from a variety of Hollywood personalities including George Raft, Hedda Hopper, Ed Sullivan, Ed Wynn, Mel Tormé, and Scatman Crothers. In addition, Bill Richmond, who co-wrote the screenplay with Lewis, makes a cameo appearance as a piano player. This was Peter Lorre’s final film.
The story deals with an incompetent bellhop who is recruited to fill in for a deceased comedian.
