Nov. 11, 1964 - Opening today is “Pajama Party,” a beach party film starring Tommy Kirk and Annette Funicello. It is the fourth in a series of beach party films produced by American International Pictures. The previous films in the series were “Beach Party” (1963), “Muscle Beach Party” (1964), and “Bikini Beach” (1964).
Additional links that tie this film previous entries are the return of Eric von Zipper (Harvey Lembeck) and his Rat Pack (who previously appeared in “Beach Party” and “Bikini Beach”) and the return of Candy Johnson as Candy for the fourth time in as many films.
Regulars Frankie Avalon, Don Rickles, Jody McCrea, Donna Loren, and Miss Funicello all appear (albeit with character name changes). Appearing for the first time in the series in supporting roles are Buster Keaton and Bobbi Shaw.
Guy Hemric and Jerry Styner wrote all the songs heard in the film, and several melodies were picked up and used for the film’s score by composer Les Baxter.
In the story, a teenaged intelligence officer from Mars (Kirk) is sent to Earth to prepare for an invasion. He lands amidst a swim party and tries to convince everyone he really is who he says he is.
