Movies: “Knife in the Water”

July 13, 1963 - Admirers of Roman Polanski’s short film, “Two Men and a Wardrobe” will soon have an opportunity to see the youthful director’s first long feature. “Knife in the Water” has been selected as a Polish entry in the forthcoming New York Film Festival before opening commercially in October. The festival was founded this year by film critic Richard Roud and Amos Vogel with the support of Lincoln Center president William Schuman. The festival will open with Luis Buñuel’s “The Exterminating Angel.” “Knife in the Water,” which has been highly praised by French and British critics, follows a husband and wife who are accompanied on a boating trip by a young male hitchhiker, who spurs a number of escalating confrontations between the couple.
