Jan. 12, 1964 - Ingmar Bergman’s controversial Swedish drama, “The Silence,” starring Ingrid Thulin and Gunnel Lindblom, will have its American premiere next month at the Rialto Theater, Broadway and 42nd Street, and the Sutton Theater, 57th Street east of Third Avenue. The drama, which has been highly popular in Sweden and also criticized for its treatment of sex, is the last in the director’s trilogy with “Through a Glass Darkly” (1961) and “Winter Light” (1963). The premiere of “Silence” will mark the return of the Rialto as a first-run film house. The theater has specialized in nudist pictures in recent years.
