Feb. 23, 1963 - “Dr. No,” the first Ian Fleming novel to be made into a picture, will be followed by the author’s “From Russia, With Love.” Shooting will begin March 25 at Pinewood Studios in London with additional location shooting in Istanbul and Venice. The Scottish actor, Sean Connery, will again play the role of the intrepid James Bond, British secret service agent 007. The producers, Harry Saltzman and Albert Broccoli, and director Terence Young are testing actresses for the Russian lead, who is described in the Fleming novel as “a voluptuous young Greta Garbo.” “Dr. No” received mixed critical reaction but has been enormously successful at the box office in Britain and the U.S. President Kennedy is a fan of Ian Fleming’s novels and requested a private showing of “Dr. No” at the White House.
