Nov. 25, 1964 - Sidney Poitier and Patricia Neal, this year’s Academy Award winners (“Lilies of the Field” and “Hud”), will head the casts of two new screen projects.
Mr. Poitier will star in “To Sir, With Love,” a new Columbia drama to be made in England next summer under the direction of James Clavell, who is also writing the screenplay. The story deals with social and racial issues in an inner-city London school. It is based on E.R. Braithwaite’s 1959 autobiographical novel of the same name.
Miss Neal, Flora Robson, Mildred Dunnock, and Sue Lyon have been signed for MGM’s “Chinese Finale.” John Ford will direct and Bernard Smith will produce the drama, which is set against the background of the Mongolian-Chinese border in 1935. The picture will face the cameras in Hollywood in February.
