Nov. 7, 1961 - Burt Lancaster has been signed for the role of the Italian prince in the film adaptation of Giuseppe di Lampedusa’s historical novel, “The Leopard.” Luchino Visconti will direct the English-language production for Titanus Films in April, with MGM as a participant in the production. In the story, the Prince of Salina, a noble aristocrat of impeccable integrity, tries to preserve his family and class amid the tumultuous social upheavals of 1860s Sicily.
