June 10, 1964 - Opening today is “Bedtime Story,” a comedy film made by Marlon Brando’s company, Pennebaker Productions. It was directed by Ralph Levy and stars Brando, David Niven, and Shirley Jones. It was filmed on location at Cannes, and was written and produced by Stanley Shapiro.
The story deals with two scam artists, each of whom preys on women for their money, who clash in a Mediterranean resort. A contest develops, and whoever wins will dominate the resort as “King of the Mountain,” the film’s original title. Will the cultured, high-class con artist (Niven) come out on top, or will the rough small-change scammer (Brando) rise to win the wager?
