More Shows To Be Televised in Color Next Season

June 16, 1965 - Further expansion of color program schedules for next season were announced today by two television networks.

CBS added six shows, including Ed Sullivan (pictured with the Beatles last year), to its color list, and ABC added two programs. CBS, which less than four months ago had no color plans, is preparing to broadcast 50% of its evening entertainment shows in color. More than a third of the ABC shows will be in color.

More than 95% of NBC’s shows will be presented in color.

Other CBS shows just added to the list are “The Andy Griffith Show,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Gomer Pyle,” “Green Acres,” starring Eddie Albert, and “The Steve Lawrence Show.” The first few Lawrence shows will be in black and white.

The ABC shows are “O.K. Crackerby!,” starring Burl Ives, and “The Farmer’s Daughter.”

Because of a shortage of CBS color studio facilities, “The Ed Sullivan Show” will originate at least four programs in Hollywood at the start of the season. When the show returns to New York, it will have a new home in the CBS Broadcast Center at 530 W. 57th St., which will have color facilities ready sometime in the fall.
