Mar. 9, 1965 - Mel Allen (pictured) was named today by the Milwaukee Braves to head a broadcasting team that will do the commentary this season on radio and television broadcasts of Braves’ games over Atlanta station WSB.
The Braves said the team consisted of Allen, Hank Morgan of WSB-TV, and the Braves’ public relations director, Ernie Johnson. The Braves, who will move to Atlanta in 1966, will send 55 radio broadcasts and 18 telecasts to Atlanta this season.
In New York, Allen said he had not been officially notified by the Braves. Allen was dropped by the New York Yankees after handling their games for 26 years. The Yankees never announced any specific reason for the move.
