Aug. 12, 1962 - Juan Marichal (pictured) held the Dodgers to 4 hits today as the Giants won, 5-1, in San Francisco. Thus, the Giants swept the 3-game series and moved to within 2 and 1/2 games of the National League leaders. Ron Fairly’s home run and singles by Tommy Davis, Frank Howard, and Jim Gilliam were the only Dodger hits off the right-handed Marichal, who scored his 15th victory against 8 losses. Marichal has finished all his winning games. The crowd of 41,812, a season high at Candlestick Park, saw Marichal strike out 8 and walk 1 — and that one intentionally. He retired the side in order in five innings and allowed more than one man on base in only one inning.
