Malcolm X Ordered to Vacate Home

Sept. 2, 1964 - Malcolm X (pictured with daughter Ilyasah), the former Black Muslim leader, was ordered today to vacate by Jan. 31 a $16,200 home he and his family have been occupying at 23-11 97th Street, Elmhurst, Queens.

The order was issued by Civil Court Judge Maurice Wahl in an eviction suit brought by Muhammad’s Temple of Islam, Inc., which is headed by Elijah Muhammad, leader of the Black Muslims.

Judge Wahl said Muhammad’s Temple had purchased the house as a residence for its ministers and held legal title to it.

Malcolm X is scheduled to return to New York from Egypt at the end of the month, according to his lawyer, Percy Sutton.
