Nov. 20, 1964 - A male pig (pictured) with the fancy name of Mr. High I.Q. will join the other livestock on the LBJ Ranch tomorrow.
George E. Reedy, the White House press secretary, explained that the “I.Q.” stands for “Iowa quality.”
The story of the pig, as related by Mr. Reedy, started when President Johnson mentioned to Governor Harold Hughes of Iowa that one thing his ranch could use was a Yorkshire boar. The Governor told Roland Paul, head of the Iowa Swine Producers, about it. Mr. Paul set up a committee to make a selection.
The committee chose an animal raised by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Juhl and Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Juhl of Cedar Rapids.
