July 26, 1961 - Jocelyn Brando (left), Marlon Brando's older sister, will play the featured role of Pat Hingle's wife in Universal's "The Ugly American," starring Mr. Brando. It will go before the cameras in Indonesia early next month. The film tells the story of American ambassador Harrison MacWhite (Brando), who travels to a Southeast Asian country beleaguered by rival factions. MacWhite views the political situation only in the simplest terms: as a struggle between communism and democracy. By the time the ambassador finally sees the political upheaval as something more complicated, it may be too late.
