Jets Lead AFL in Season Ticket Sales

Apr. 7, 1964 - Joe Foss, commissioner of the American Football League, said today that the New York Jets club, which was bankrupt in 1962, leads the AFL in season ticket sales. The Jets have sold more than 10,000 tickets so far.

“Right now, New York is the one club that thinks it can beat Kansas City in season ticket sales,” Foss said at a Kansas City luncheon kicking off the Chiefs’ ticket drive. “I wish you folks could see the change in the New York picture made by the new owner, Sonny Werblin.”

“New York definitely will play in the 60,000-seat Shea Stadium this fall,” he added.
