How Do You Spell Lucy?

Jan. 4, 1964 - It was either a teenage whim or President Johnson’s daughter, Lucy Baines (pictured), 16, was pulling someone’s leg when she said she had changed her name. She told reporters and photographers at a weekend party in Austin, Tex., that she prefers to spell her name “Luci.” Mrs. John Adams, hostess of the party, supported her pretty guest of honor. But today, the White House squelched it all. “It’s spelled L-U-C-Y,” an aide said after checking with President and Mrs. Johnson. “She’s just behaving like a girl.”
