Mays opened with homer No. 33 in the first inning off the losing pitcher, Dallas Green. The major league home run leader followed with No. 34 in the second off Billy Smith. Each homer came with a man on base. Willie singled in the fourth, fifth, and eighth innings. The second one knocked in his 100th run of the year. Billy Pierce hurled his 10th victory for the Giants against 3 defeats.
