July 27, 1961 - Juan Marichal (pictured) pitched a five-hitter today for his first shutout of the season in leading the Giants to a 2-0 victory over the Pirates. Marichal, a right-hander, struck out eight and walked three. San Francisco scored in the fifth on Jim Davenport's double and José Pagan's single. The Giants scored again in the sixth when Joe Amalfitano doubled, went to third on Harvey Kuenn's single and reached home on Matty Alou's force-out.
