Aug. 2, 1962 - Seven workmen on scaffolds began today to give the tower of the Empire State Building its first polishing and painting since it was completed in 1932. The tower is between the observation deck on the 86th floor and the top of the building, 102 stories above Fifth Avenue. A spokesman for the building said the job would take at least two weeks. The man, employed by the Rogell and Best Construction Company, will work only between 5:30 and 9:30 a.m. to avoid splattering anyone on the observation deck or down below.
