July 3, 1963 - Jazz singer Dinah Washington married professional football star Dick “Night Train” Lane last night in a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas. It was the sixth marriage for Miss Washington, 37, and the second for Lane, 35. Lane, who currently plays for the Detroit Lions, is a seven-time Pro Bowler and has twice led the National Football League in interceptions. Miss Washington has been performing since the age of 15. She has appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival five times and has performed with Count Basie and Duke Ellington.
