Cuba Again Charges U.S. with Spying

July 4, 1962 - The Cuban Air Ministry charged today that two U.S. planes flew over Cuba yesterday. This was the 13th such intrusion reported by the Ministry since June 18. The announcement said that a Catalina flying boat and another aircraft flew at an altitude of 500 feet over Guanabo Beach, 13 miles east of Havana, and Key Largo, a small island 25 miles off the southern coast. “Espionage missions and acts of air piracy and provocations of Yankee planes have multiplied in the last few days,” the Cuban Ministry asserted.
