Jan. 20, 1964 - In boxing, the quote of the week could be this one: “I’ll bet Cassius Clay messes him about for nine or ten rounds. He’s got a pair of legs. This fellow’s fast, and he boxes from a long distance, which won’t suit Liston because Liston’s cumbersome. I think Clay will give him a much harder fight than people think.” The speaker was Henry Cooper of Britain in London last week. Cooper was beaten pretty badly by Clay last spring — and in exactly the five rounds Clay predicted. Cooper is still impressed. But his is the minority view. Most ring experts believe Liston will easily retain his heavyweight crown and that the fight will not be particularly close.
