Chubby Checker's "The Twist" Retakes Top Spot on Billboard Hot 100

Jan. 13, 1962 - Taking the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and setting a new record today is “The Twist” by Chubby Checker. Last year, the song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 19 and stayed there for one week. This is the first time a song has reached No. 1 again on a separate chart run. In July 1960, Checker performed "The Twist" for the first time in front of a live audience at the Rainbow Club in Wildwood, N.J., and just weeks later, on Aug. 6, 1960, the song became a national sensation after Checker performed it on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. Now, it is a hit once again.
