Dec. 3, 1964 - “Hullabaloo,” a one‐hour musical variety show prepared with special appeal for young persons, will make its debut at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, over the NBC network. The time period is now filled by “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” which moves to 8 p.m. Mondays, effective Jan. 11.
While not calling “Hullabaloo” a rock ‘n’ roll show, NBC said it would “encompass all facets of the entertainment world of interest to young people, with the accent on young performers.”
Brian Epstein (pictured), manager of the Beatles, will introduce one segment of the show each week presenting English popular singers. These segments will be taped in London and offer such performers as Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers, and Freddie and the Dreamers.
When it moves to Monday evening, “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” will replace two half‐hour shows — “Tom, Dick and Mary” and “Harris Against the World,” which will be dropped. NBC believes that the show has a chance of attracting a larger audience at the earlier hour on Monday than it now has on Tuesdays.
Chevrolet, the major sponsor of “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” opposed the rescheduling of the show and will withdraw its support. But Chevrolet also agreed to reallocate the advertising money to other NBC programs already on the air. The advertiser has not yet selected the shows.
