CBS Dominates Nielsen Ratings

Feb. 24, 1964 - For the first time this season, CBS has 14 shows out of the top 15 in a new television rating report by the A.C. Nielsen Company. The only other national network show to make the list for the two-week period ended Feb. 9 was “Bonanza” on NBC. “The Ed Sullivan Show” rocketed into fourth place, catapulted by the three appearances of the Beatles. “Gunsmoke,” a long-running series, moved into 10th place.

The top 15 shows in the order of finish were: “Beverly Hillbillies,” “Bonanza,” The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “Petticoat Junction,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “The Lucy Show,” “My Favorite Martian,” “The Danny Thomas Show,” “Gunsmoke,” “The Red Skelton Show,” “Candid Camera,” “Lassie,” “The Jack Benny Show,” and “I’ve Got a Secret.”
