Oct. 5, 1964 - “Oh gosh, we couldn’t favor one team over the other,” said Vern Boyer.
“We’ll just be rootin’ for each of the boys every time he’s involved in a play,” said Mrs. Boyer.
The declaration of family policy came from the parents of the two Boyer boys who will be rivals in the World Series. Ken Boyer is the third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals; Clete Boyer is the third baseman for the New York Yankees.
“This is something we have wished would happen,” said Mrs. Boyer.
They are going to see the St. Louis games, and they may go to New York, too. They live in Alba, in Jasper County in southwestern Missouri.
All of the Boyers’ seven sons are or have been in professional baseball. Five of them were signed originally by the Cardinals. Three are currently in the Yankee organization.
