July 8, 1964 - A second novel by Ken Kesey (pictured), “Sometimes a Great Notion,” will be issued on July 27 by Viking. The story’s setting is the timber country of Oregon. It tells about a family of independent lumbermen and their conflicts with one another and with the townspeople and a labor union.
A play based on Mr. Kesey’s first novel, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” was produced on Broadway last fall with Kirk Douglas in the lead role. More than a half million copies of that book have been sold.
