Bill Russell Named NBA’s MVP

Mar. 24, 1965 - Bill Russell, the center around whom the Boston Celtics have won seven championships, was named today the NBA’s most valuable player for the fourth time in five years.
He was the first selection on all but one of 24 ballots by a committee of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.Jerry West of the Los Angeles Lakers was the only other player to get a first-place vote. He was second in the balloting, followed by Oscar Robertson of the Cincinnati Royals; Sam Jones of the Celtics, and Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia 76ers.
