Sept. 14, 1964 - The Oldsmobile Division of the General Motors Corporation put on display today a line of 1965 cars that carry out a styling theme set in the new Buick and Pontiac models shown last week.
Harold Metzel, the division’s general manager, said Oldsmobile would offer in 1965 a new model to be known as the Delta 88. This car will be a higher priced version of the Jetstar 88 and Dynamic 88.
All of the full-sized Oldsmobiles will have raised rear fender lines and rather long, sloping roofs. These were features of the 1964 Pontiacs and the 1964 Buick Riviera.
The sloping roof lines will be most evident on the Starfire coupe and the Dynamic 88 coupe. They will approach a “fastback” design, in which the roof sweeps unbroken to the rear end.
Oldsmobile will offer its new 425-cubic-inch engine on several models. The 310-horsepower version will be standard equipment on the Dynamic 88 and Delta 88, and the 370-horsepower version will be standard on the Jetstar I, Starfire, and 98 models. These engines will be teamed with the new Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission.
