Archie Moore Sees Liston KO of Ali in Rematch

Nov. 9, 1964 - Former light-heavyweight champion Archie Moore (pictured being knocked out by then Cassius Clay on Nov. 15, 1962) thinks Sonny Liston will knock out Muhammad Ali “any time after the seventh round” of their rematch at the Boston Garden Nov. 16.

Moore, in Denver with the San Diego Chargers as a public relations aide, predicted an Ali victory (in four rounds) in the first heavyweight meeting between the two. Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, won it in six rounds.

Archie said: “I can foresee Liston stalking Clay, and Cassius repeatedly jabbing him and moving from side to side. I see Liston losing the first four or five rounds as Cassius keeps jabbing, but then Sonny launching a flurry of hard punches to the midsection to slow Clay down.”
Moore said: “I pick Liston to catch up with him and win any time after the seventh round by a knockout.”
