Annette Funicello Marries Her Agent, Jack Gilardi

Jan. 9, 1965 - Former “Mouseketeer” Annette Funicello, 22, was married to her agent, Jack Gilardi, 34, today while several hundred fans waited — and some skateboarded — outside St. Cyril Catholic Church in Encino, Calif.

The couple said their vows during a Solemn High Nuptial Mass presided over by the Rev. Michael Lalor of St. Cyril. Some 1,000 invited guests watched inside the church, and about 500 fans and Mickey Mouse Club alumni waited outside with cameras and rice.

Miss Funicello, who became a dancer-singer as a Walt Disney Mouseketeer at 12, switched from mouse-eared hats to bikinis and beach party movie roles several years ago. A frequent co-star, Frankie Avalon, was an usher at the wedding. Bridesmaids included actresses Noreen Corcoran and Shelley Fabares.

Miss Funicello, who met Gilardi when she was 14, wore a chantilly lace-covered sheath created by Academy Award-winning designer Bill Thomas. She trailed a five-foot cathedral train and wore a headpiece copied from one she wore in a wedding scene in the film, “Babes in Toyland.”

The couple plan to leave tomorrow morning for an extended honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico.
