1963’s Miss America is Jacqueline Mayer

Sept. 8, 1962 - Twenty-year-old Jacqueline Jeanne Mayer, a brunette from Sandusky, Ohio, was crowned Miss America of 1963 tonight at the annual pageant in Atlantic City’s Convention Hall. Miss Mayer, a sophomore at Northwestern University, was chosen from among 54 girls representing every state and Washington D.C., Canada, and the cities of Chicago and New York. She succeeds Maria Beale Fletcher of Asheville, N.C. The 1963 Miss America is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mayer. During the next year, she will earn about $75,000 from personal appearances. Miss Mayer also received a $10,000 college scholarship by winning the contest.
